Highlights and Lowlights

Kansas, like the rest of the conference, was an annual victim of Oklahoma's in the 1950's during the Sooners' record setting streak.  They did play a close game against Syracuse in 1960, their closest shot to winning the title.  Kansas did have a very strong team in the 60's and 70's, highlighted by the presence of Gale Sayers through the 1964 season.  Of course, with basketball, it's a whole different story for Kansas.

I found an interesting story on Kansas that ties into the whole college football history aspect of this site.  It had to do with the choice of school colors.  According to collegefootballhistory.com anyway, Kansas was planning to choose Crimson (Harvard's colors) in honor of John McCook, a Harvard man, for gifts that enabled them to purchase an athletic field.  Several faculty members who were Yale grads grumbled and insisted that Yale blue be included, thus the combination of colors.
