First views of this post might seem out of line with others, hopefully this blog gets improved, but... I just had to post, because... DID YOU SEE THE NEBRASKA MICHIGAN GAME???
I expected a hard hitting, all out game from two great powers with a lot of tradition. The winningest team and the 4th winningest team in college football... this is the matchup that should have happened 8 years ago, but whenever they get together, it's worth watching. And this game was no disappointment.
As you may know, I'm a Cornhusker fan. I was proud of the way Nebraska played and kept coming back. Zach Taylor did a heck of a job keeping his composure and coming back after all the hits he was taking. For all the turmoil of this team, these guys did great job and made this state proud.
Michigan fans should be proud of their team as well. They played with a lot of class and a lot of heart. They never gave up, and gave us one of the best ends to a college football either. This time there was no question the ball was live until the end. I'll have to watch it again, it looked like players from both teams came off the sidelines before it was over, Nebraska should feel lucky they didn't get a penalty on that play, which would have put Michigan on the 10 with one more play.
ESPN announcers were saying that it was the worst officiated game they've ever seen. I'm not sure that it was the worst, though there were some real problems. I know a lot of people were booing a lot of the calls and honestly, I'm amazed at how many close ones they got right. Nebraska got lucky early in the game that a fumble wasn't called on one play. But there were some mistakes in the end that i do belive cost Michigan the shot at ending it that they should have had. The fact that Michigan had to burn two time outs to make sure plays were reviewed is inexcusable. On the last play before Nebraska's last punt, there was too much time allowed to go down on the clock, which hurt Michigan as well.
Would Michigan have won if those mistakes weren't made? That's a hard one to say. It is too bad they didn't get the chance to let us know, I'd rather have the victory not be in question. And really, if Michigan had pulled off the win, I wouldn't have been upset, after all I just watched one of the best bowl games of the season.
