Credit where credit is due
I'm starting to get comments on the site, and so far people have been pretty positive. Thank you.
As I said in the history page of the site, I'm sure I'm not the first one to come up with this idea. While the idea has been rattling around in this head of mine for a number of years, I'm very sure I'm not the first one to ever ask myself what if football did it the way boxing did. In fact, knowing i'm not much for original thought, I'm pretty sure someone voiced that very question and it just stuck in my head. I'm sure some commentator or game announcer probably said something like that. I wish i knew.
I know I definitely wasn't the first to publish the idea to the web. While there may be others, I know that David Shepard has had a page up for awhile that was related to this very topic. David Wilson pointed it out to me shortly after I published my site.
I have to give David Shepard credit for two things: First, he had the common sense to devote probably just about as much attention to it as the idea really deserved. He was able to sum it all up in one page, where I'm slowly turning this in to some massive project that has no real meaning. Second, he did his the hard way. Thumbing through books and scores, taking time to do research the old fashioned way, as he first started researching it in books and the like before all this information was so easy to find on the internet. I had it easy, using James Howell's historical scores by team name. All I had to do was start with the champion and follow their schedule down until a loss, to which i just click on the name of the team that beat them, which takes me instantly to their historical scores... so that made it very easy. Okay, my fingers are a little sore after typing waaaaay too many scores out.....
So for all the nice comments so far, thanks. I couldn't do it without all the hard work already done by others. Or I could if i wanted to work that much harder.....
Oh, got Oklahoma's team page posted now:
www.heavyweightfootballchamps.com/teams/oklahoma.htm.
this could be a slow process, probably because i'm taking the time to come up with links and ads to match each team.... but at least it gives me something to do before college football starts up again in the fall. 234 days, 21 hours, 37 minutes as i type this... (you HAVE to check out the countdown on Kanka's Sports Page. Very clever. Give it a minute or so once you get there if it doesn't load right away. Great idea.
