Beakers Rants

This is for all the comments and thoughts about football and other things that might not fit into the rest of my site. Or maybe they will fit and I just want to post here. Like I think someone will want to read them? (If you do happen to be reading this, thank you. You gave my ego a nice boost)

Football Fans: Gotta love em (and hate em)

There's only one conclusion I can come to about college football fans. We're an odd bunch.

I mean, there's the guy who put together this big site all about some stupid what if scenario in college football. Hours of precious time lost, even developing pages for individual teams, over an idea he KNOWS won't get anywhere.... something that, as someone in an LSU fan site said... it's stupid.

Oh... that guy's me. Is it any wonder I'm single????? Well, the good side of it all is, the Google ad words are paying the cost of the site, which isn't much... but that doesn't account for the time.

But... there's just a different mentality where people who get so wrapped up in college football are involved.

I've never spent a lot of time in blogs until I started putting this together, but I love the wit and the sense of humor. For example, there's this little gem at Trojan Wire.

But where we're really twisted is when it comes to arguing college football.

Several years ago, maybe 10 years ago? ESPN had a great college football chat room. I used to love to go there just to argue with people. Maybe it's because people can be, well.... pretty dumb. You'd make a point that, in your mind was pretty solid, and the best the other guy could come back with was, well, your team sucks. That's the kinda stuff you walk away from feeling pretty superior.

Well, until my (now ex) wife would ask what all this fighting accomplished. Ummm, well... ummmm.......

And then... getting to see people argue away on forums about stuff, people haven't changed. And the mentality of it all is still the same. Someone makes an elaborate case about why this team was better than that team so many years ago, and sometimes you can tell they're trying their best to sound intelligent. You can just picture them thumbing through a dictionary looking for big words to misuse. And in the end, it still comes down to 'your team sucks.'

I had drawn a conclusion way back in the ESPN chat room days that fans from certain regions were by nature less articulate and more prone to use the 'your team sucks' approach. Ten years later, not a lot has changed. So now i can post in forums and argue away and feel pretty superior, and now it's without being asked what i accomplished.

So i can feel satisfied that another day has been spent making brilliant arguments, scoffing at the stupidity of the other guy... and i won't worry about if i've managed to help humanity at all.

And if you don't agree... well...... your team sucks.
