So, was it a mistake?
All the talk is about whether it was a mistake for USC to go for it on 4th and 2 with 2 minutes remaining.
You could make a case either way, but let me say this. While I've bristled at how much hype has gone into the whole 'best team ever' thing, and that Pete Carroll is the second coming himself where coaches are concerned. But here's my take: USC didn't get as successful as they are by playing it safe and hoping it works out in the end. I have a lot of respect for Pete Carroll simply for the fact that he decided to go with what got them that far.
Really, the question of whether it was a mistake is an irrelevent one. Or put it this way, if Pete Carroll were not the type to make that kind of call, I honestly don't think we'd be having this discussion anyway because USC wouldn't be sitting in the position of going for their third straight national championship. They'd have been sitting in some second tier bowlgame and no one would care. Pete Carroll had the confidence in his team and the guts to go for it, and that's what got him and his team to the point that this even is a question.

New Orleans Saints back at home
San Jose, Costa Rica: September 25th, 2006
The New Orleans Saints are proudly returning to their Superdrome today as they are hosting a match against Atlanta. The superdrome was destroyed by Katrina when it hit New Orleans over a year ago. It was then used as a shelter by more than 25 000 homeless people in desperate conditions. However the venue has gone through a remarkable make over and is now ready for action. It goes without saying that the city of New Orleans is in a turmoil caused by the excitement of having their team back again. The last home games were held in Louisiana State University and in San Antonio in Texas. One home game was even played in the Giants Stadium in New York, so it is not surprising that New Orleans is feeling so elated about this event.
