A little clarification
I wanted to clarify something after comments posted. Hey, after all, i see some blogs with tons and tons of comments, and then i look at my blog and if i get one comment, it's something to cheer about. Okay, if i wouldn't disappear for 3 months, maybe that situation would improve.
It was pointed out that I've been critical of LSU fans. I do apologize if I have in anyway disparaged LSU fans as a group. In my mind, I haven't, I certainly haven't meant to, anyway. But I also know that perception is everything, and if I've left that perception, I truly am sorry.
My comments have been in reference to a select few people. My personal opinion, (which is probably fairly obvious if you've read down very far) is that the whole one-peat thing was pretty absurd. I also pointed out that I've noticed that there were a large number of LSU fans I was aware of that were pretty embarassed by the whole thing.
Now, having said that, even with my own complaints, I didn't see LSU fans for the most part getting vulgar or abusive. Even in the forums I've seen that debated this whole issue, most were pretty respectful and didn't get vicious or anything like that. I have no issue with LSU fans as a whole. My only issue was with the whole billboard thing and with a select few (very few) individuals and their approach. Neither of them have to do with LSU or being LSU fans, but the issues have to do with the particular approaches taken. I would have the same issues if those were Nebraska fans or any other fans.
It's amazing how one or two encounters can paint our whole perception of a particular school or of their fans. In 1997 I can remember encounters with Michigan fans who's arguments in the whole Nebraska vs Michigan debate seemed to be limited to using foul language and talking about Nebraska's 'cornvicts.' As I've gotten to know other Michigan fans since, I've found htem to be generally pretty classy, and some pretty humorous. If I'd let my impression of Michigan fans be totally painted by those experiences earlier, I'd have lost out.
I know many people who've commented on how they loved how they were treated as fans of opposing teams playing against Nebraska. I've talked to opposing football players who couldn't believe the standing ovation they got in the South Endzone when leaving the game by fans of the opposing team. And yet, I know people who, because of the actions and abuse of usually one or two idiots, are convinced that Nebraska fans as a whole are rude and abusive.
That's a lot of rambling, I know. But i do want to make sure I don't go lumping people into a group just by what teams they cheer for.
Since moving out East now and being close to many 1A schools, I'm looking forward to getting to a number of games and experiencing college football in a whole different way. In conjunction with the main site, I want to get to at least one or two title games a year. And hey, if anyone offers me tickets to anywhere, I'm sure not gonna turn em down if i can get there. I'd love to go see a game in Baton Rouge some day.
To sum it up, if you're a college football fan and you're respectful and decent while being very enthusiastic about your team, that's enough to impress me, no matter where you're from or who you cheer for.

it really is amazing how a few jerks can make an entire nation of fans of any team look stupid.
