Beakers Rants

This is for all the comments and thoughts about football and other things that might not fit into the rest of my site. Or maybe they will fit and I just want to post here. Like I think someone will want to read them? (If you do happen to be reading this, thank you. You gave my ego a nice boost)

A special day

I'm sitting here listening to the Nebraska broadcast over the internet, looking through TV games and getting excited about a new football season.

It doesn't appear we'll have an upset in the first Heavyweight Championship of the season, Texas is leading 35-7 in the 3rd quarter as i write this.

I found out that Comcast has some great college football packages, makes me ready to get on with Comcast as soon as possible. But if i do that any productivity i hope i might achieve would be hopelessly lost.

This morning I had breakfast with about a dozen men from my church. Of course, the conversation got around to football, but it was very different than the breakfast house/coffee shop football discussions in places where I've been before. Back in Nebraska, it was almost always centered on Nebraska football. When i lived in Iowa, it was teh Hawkeyes, Nebraska and a little of Iowa State. I lived in Kansas a little more than a year back before Bill Snyder turned around the KSU program, and there it was usually Oklahoma and lamenting the Kansas schools. Now here, there were 6 different people who talked about 'their' teams, and every team was different. There was West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Kentucky, Miami, and of course Nebraska (any guesses who brought that one up?). That's the fascinating thing about this area, it's such a mixture. In a lot of ways it's a good thing, though i have to say i miss the regional fanaticism I've seen in other places. (Oh, that's present here, but it's reserved for the Redskins).

Here's to a great year. Let the games... continue (guess they've already begun)....
