Edinson Cavani grabbed a crucial brace that helped Paris Saint Germain defeat Ludogorets to secure their first win in the UEFA Champions League this season.
PSG won the game 3-1, but Cavani’s goals were important to seal the victory.
PSG manager Unai Emery played a draw in the group’s opening performance against Arsenal. For a team that wants European success badly, they had to quickly get over the 2-0 loss in the French Ligue 1 to Toulouse to win their game against Ludogorets. The Bulgarian side got the first goal of the game in the 15th minute through Natanael. PSG could not afford another slip, so they fought back hard to get an equalizer through Blaise Matuidi. Cavani’s two goals ensured PSG equalled Arsenal’s four points from two games.
Paris St. Germain found themselves were under pressure from very early in the game. Thiago Motta fouled Svetoslav Dyakov on the edge of the area. The host were awarded a free kick which Natanael scored, beating goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. PSG came all out after conceding the goal. The consistent attacks proved a bargain when they equalized.
Fifteen minutes after the break, the defending champions in the French Ligue 1 got another goal when Angel Di Maria’s free kick reached Cavani who headed the ball past the goalkeeper, Vladislav Stoyanov. Ludogorets had the chance to get n equalizer when Motta brought down Marcelinho in the penalty area. However, Areola saved Cosmin Moti’s kick. The host were disappointed, yet 29-year old Cavani added misery. Lucas Moura and Cavani combined well to get past the opposition for PSG’s third goal of the game. Cavani sent the ball to the top corner and it hit a deflection on its way in. PSG would host Basel in the forthcoming Champions League game, while Ludogorets play Arsenal.
